We were overwhelmed by the large number of people who attended our launch meeting in the Ashbourne House Hotel on Sept 10th last. An incredible presence of over 220 people is evident that many people in the community are concerned and wish to play their part in combating suicide.
Our guest speakers – Joan Freeman (founder of Pieta House), Derek Devoy (founder of Taxi-Watch.ie) and our very own Rory O Connor (Rory’s Stories) shared their experiences and relayed messages of hope to the audience. Sharing their journey to success was a message of inspiration and we hope that we can achieve the same for our community initiative.
We are very grateful to the many people who offered their time, expertise and services to assist us and to our community for showing up and supporting the ASAP campaign. What an incredible way to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.
We received the following message from Joan Freeman after the event:
‘I am still in awe of the reception I received from the people of Ashbourne on Monday's World Suicide Prevention Day.
I want to commend the extraordinary initiative created by ASAP (Ashbourne Suicide Awareness & Prevention).
This is a major step towards an all-encompassing community which shows their compassion for each other.
Well done Ashbourne, you should be so proud.’
